The Death of Constitutional Democracy in the US

The United States, as we've known it, exists no longer.

We are now essentially a dictatorship, where the president can detain anyone--even a US citizen-- without even habeas corpus rights, by declaring them an "enemy combatant".

And TORTURE has been sanctified by the state.

What a DISGRACE for everyone in a leadership position in this country, though clearly the Bush administration and the GOP deserve the lion's share of the blame. These people are beyond redemption, they are just soulless husks of human beings. To think that they consider themselves good Christians makes me sick.

What a sad sad state to which we have come.

UPDATE: it's official. This is probably the most depressing day I've had since 9/11 and the day the US invaded Iraq. Greenwald has appropriate remarks here.

On the one hand, this is depressing. On the other hand, this is still our country and I am not going to give into these assholes. The sad people who wrote and voted for (and who will eventually sign) this bill are just scared little children who deserve our pity. Mostly, though, these people need to be voted out of office and prosecuted for war crimes wherever possible.

Perhaps if you had posted more pictures of your foot on the net, or burned more coffee pots or torched more rabbit cages or played more video games, or rammed more toy wooden airplanes into more building block towers this all could have been prevented?

Once again you show how utterly bereft of any sort of intelligence, Spook ol' buddy. I agree with SOJ - you should go back to burning pots or throwing model airplanes at makeshift WTC or creating advanced scientific experiments involving chickenwire (pardon me....RABBIT wire) and newspaper.

If there was any shred of truth to that diahrrea you just spewed, you wouldn't be around to post this crap. You wouldn't be around to complain and whine and make up these bullshit stories trying to explain things that are too complex for your iddy biddy widdle brain to comprehend. If there was any shred of truth to what you are vomiting up you'd be in some detention facility like the one I yanked your chain about back in the summer (do you realize how hilarious that was?).

Lincoln suspended habeus corpus during the civil war. I suppose that was a "dictatorship" as well.

And that is another reason why peopel of your limited intellect should never be allowed to run this country nor provide for the common defense. You are simply too fucking dumb to understand that in Nov of 2007 you will be able to vote for the candidate of your choice for President and a slew of other political positions across the spectrum. And you know what? YOU DON'T HAVE TO VOTE FOR BUSH! IN FACT, HE WON'T EVEN BE RUNNING! Some dictatorship.

You are one funny dumb shit.

ARE YOU HONESTLY DEFNDING TORTURE AND STRIPPING OF HABEUS CORPUS RIGHTS, PINCH?

Blogger Alex said...

1. Not even the Bush administration has defended, nor asked for the right to torture poeple. So I don't know where you're going with that. Strawman much?

2. The US constitution specificaly says:

"The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it."

I'm thinking there's probably a reason they put that in there.

Constitution? Bah. Means crap to people like spook, but it would be nice if he read the damn thing before he starts spouting his bull.

And to spook, the training I got during my survival and escape experience in the Navy would probably have been TORTURE!!!!!!!

That's another reason why the left (specifically the SPOOK left) will never be entrusted with the safety and security of this nation - and that is because they fail to understand the threat and are not prepared to use extrordinary means to counter and negate such threats. If a guy comes at you with a 2x4 with nails in it and ol' Spook is in charge, I bet he'd try and draw the guy a picture to explain why the 2x4 is not an allowable weapon as per the 1933 Washington Naval Conference.

Idiot.

if a guy came at me with a 2x4 with nails in it he would end up with a 2x4 with nails in it hat. and then i would call my police lieutenant brother and he would take over. but that has nothing to do with the price of waterboards does it?

alex-- either you're very naive or you're being dishonest about the Bush admin and torture. And sure, habeas corpus can be stripped in cases of emergency, but 5 years after 9/11 with nothing close to any ongoing attacks, there is no reason to keep these prisoners suspended in limbo, when there is no doubt many of these people are not terrorists and were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The most pernicious part of the new bill is that the president can declare anyone, even a US citizen, an enemy combatant and then have their rights stripped from them, and torture is allowed along with indefinite detention. And if you're not worried about Bush with that power, maybe you'd be worried about some other president, perhaps Hillary Clinton.

Pinch-- you're an ass. Why anyone would trust Republicans with national security is beyond me. I am sure it is very exciting for you to think that we're locked in a global struggle against dangerous supervillains who are out to destroy our country, but it's just not reality. 9/11 was an inside job and you should be smart enoug to know it.

finally, I'm quite sure liberals could win a majority in the US again, particularly if we had reliable elections and vote counting systems:

lol spooky! You do love to get spooked up about all this. Keep it up - it keeps me coming back!

Nice to see you already floating the baloon about when you lose the next election. It, of course, WON'T be because there's nobody on the left who has either the balls or the backbone to do what needs to be done about international terrorism, but rather RELIABLE ELECTIONS and VOTE COUNTING SYSTEMS! The sky is falling!!!! Seriously, can't you come up with anything better? When you stop blaming everything but the actual reason, THEN perhaps you can start climbing out of that fetid hole you've dug for yourself. The truth of the matter is the American people don't trust you and your morons, you blithering idiot! The sooner you finally realize that the better off you'll be! Denial is an important stage, but you must go thru it!

Still, it continues to be so entertaining to watch you try and explain away things that are so far beyond your comprehension that you have to make shit up to explain it. I demand more diagrams! More experiments! The Instapinch needs another 4,000 hit day from linking to your brilliance!

Torture Bill States Non-Allegiance To Bush Is Terrorism

Buried amongst the untold affronts to the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and the very spirit of America, the torture bill contains a definition of "wrongfully aiding the enemy" which labels all American citizens who breach their "allegiance" to President Bush and the actions of his government as terrorists subject to possible arrest, torture and conviction in front of a military tribunal.

After five hours of searching through the 80-plus page bill, Alex Jones, who won the 2004 Project Censored award for his analysis of Patriot Act 2, uncovered numerous other provisions and definitions that make the bill appear as almost a mirror image of Hitler's 1933 Enabling Act.

In section 950j. the bill criminalizes any challenge to the legislation's legality by the Supreme Court or any United States court. Alberto Gonzales has already threatened federal judges to shut up and not question Bush's authority on the torture of detainees.

Hey sword of truth, i'm going to put your mom in a box and send her to syria where arabs will rape her and pour acid on her until I determine how guilty she is. OK?

That's your Bush Administration policy and I'm going to use it on your mom, since you have no problem with it.

Then I'm going to put her on a box and put a urine soaked hood over her head.

Finally I'm going to cut off your testicles in front of her and boil you in oil.

Why is that un-American?

It seems to me like you aren't telling us the truth, and I supect that you're a terrorist or a terrorist sympathiser.

Love,

Your Government

You know, sot, I have some pretty good frat buddies and a country club where we're more than willing to try out some enhanced interrogation techniques on you and your family. Just post your details here and I'll make it happen. OK? Really. I'm proud to do that for you. But I'll do it secretly.

As the anonymous poster of the previous two comments I feel I should clarify my remarks above, which were made in jest.

All I really wish to do to SOT and his family is have goverment contractors extraordinarly render him to a third country where third country nationals will engage in mild pressure. Ultimately a secret tribunal will dispose of them.

Just wanted to make that clear, in case anyone had the wrong idea. I have no intention of using any illegal methods or torture on Sword of Truth or any of his family.

Also, please note that as this is a sensitive matter of national security, i would appreciate it if the blogs would not look into the fate of "ghost detainees" like sword of truth.

Thank you!

So I point out how no one actually said that there were bombs inside the WTC and what do I get? More threats of violence.

So I guess we chalk this one up as another victory for the truth, then?

BTW, I'm from Canada. I'm a supporter of both President Bush and Prime Minister Harper. All that crap you just threatened my family with is illegal as hell.

How much is it worth to you for me not to report you to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police?

6:36 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

There's nothing illegal about it, it's the new Patriotism. All I'm saying is that you're probably a terrorist and I support the new policies. In actual fact (as I'm sure you're well aware, SOT), I wish you and your family no harm at all! Why would I hate your freedom?

On the other hand, the policies mentioned above have unfortunately been the result of the "War On Terror". As I clearly stated, the comments are purely in jest, and designed to illustrate to you graphically that while you say you support Bush, the truth is you say that these anti-terrorist methods are ILLEGAL.

How much is it worth for YOU not to have US report you to the RCMP? Did you see what happened to the last innocent Canadian that was shipped off to Syria as a suspected terrorist?

Just to make it absolutely clear, I have absolutely no desire whatsoever to actually threaten Sword of Truth or any of his family. None whatsoever. The point is that the US and Canadian "so called" anti-terrorism measures that result in torture are obscene and Illegal, and Sword of Truth thinks everyone should be "Guilty until released" except for him and his family.

How can you justify supporting the Bush policies but not wanting them applied to you???

that was the point of my comments, just to make it very clear, as I think it was from the beginning.

6:55 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Just in case it wasn't absolutely clear, I want to make it explicit that I'm against illegal torture of all kinds, even when used to justify goverment policies. I feel that the Bill of Rights should protect even the most disgusting members of humanity, which may include Sword of Truth and people like him.

So, SOT, you say that these methods of torture are illegal, but since you're a suspected terrorist (I personally suspect you, as do many others, no doubt)... why do you call them illegal?

Are you saying it's WRONG to torture suspected terrorists in foreign countries?

Is it right or wrong?

I think it's wrong.

Which policy is illegal??

Once again, to make it absolutely clear, I do not actually think the government or anyone else should ship Sword of Truth, his family, or anyone else off to another country to be tortured.
