Binghamton Shooter Oddities

On April 3, Mr. Wong had a 10 a.m. appointment at the employment center. He did not show. Thirty minutes later and less than two blocks away, Mr. Wong walked into the American Civic Association, where he had recently taken an English class with other immigrants. Mr. Wong, 41, returned to his old classroom and, in one of New York State’s deadliest mass shootings, killed 13 former classmates and association employees and wounded four others, firing 98 shots from two handguns in about a minute, before taking his own life, the police said.

Last year, Mr. Wong went to one of the local shooting ranges and spent hours practicing on targets 50 feet away. He was using a semiautomatic Beretta pistol equipped with a laser sight, and he had a pile of shot-up targets at his side. Mr. Wong’s style of target practice caught the attention of the man shooting next to him, a few lanes over.

“He was basically shooting his shots in rapid succession with virtually no hesitation between shots, very smooth and steady and rapid shooting,” said the man, who asked that his name not be used.

Mr. Wong told the man that he had probably shot 10,000 rounds in about a year’s time. “He was pleasant,” the man recalled. “He was courteous. You would never suspect that he would pose a threat to anyone.”
Uh, yeah-- someone shooting like that could never hurt anyone... right. How dumb can you get?

He had an extensive history of police contacts-- was he being monitored or even controlled?

His sister did not recognize his handwriting in his confession letter.

Not at all clear why he killed people in the English class-- is this some possible homage to Sueng-Hui Ho-- the official Va Tech killer--who also was Asian, and an English student?

The thing that isn't odd is that this shooting took place in April-- these types of mass killings often take place in April, like the Va Tech killings-- and this April there have been a few such events.

what i find odd:

Mr. Wong told the man that he had probably shot 10,000 rounds in about a year’s time....He was using a semiautomatic Beretta pistol equipped with a laser sight.

a beretta most likely shoots either .380 caliber or 9 millimeter bullets. those kind of bullets cost approximately $1.00 per bullet.
where did wong get this kind of funding?

Excellent point-- that's quite a bit of money to be spending on this for someone who doesn't make a whole lot.

Student, 17, killed 15 at and near Winnenden, near Stuttgart, on March 11th. He used a Baretta 92, 9 mm, was a marksman.
Got off 100 rounds, 60 in the school where the victims were 9 female students, 3 female teachers, and one male student. 5 rounds per victim. Three more were killed later outside of the school.

Fierce weapon.

10,000 rounds is a lot although the guy might have embellished the number. I've typically shot 150 -200 a range visit (Ruger P89, along with other guns per session), maybe 12 - 15 times a year.
Rapid fire offhand is just one method of practice, as is multiple target drills, accuracy shooting off a rest and draw and fire, etc.
A box of 50 9 mm practice can go for $10 if you buy them bulk although the prices have been going way up in the last couple years.
My wife has a laser sight on her pistol.

What I'm saying is that it's really not all that odd that a guy would shoot like that, nor is it very odd that he'd get off almost 100 rounds in around a minute with 15 round mags on his belt when he did his dirty.

What is odd is the cop fetish in his letter and the curious April time slot of all these death cult sacrifices of course.

50 9mm for $10.00?
wow! all of the rounds that my various guns use cost approx $1.00/bullet.
granted, none of mine are 9mm, but they are nothing special either - hmmm, maybe i should look around more.

This is what a quick google search for 9mm ammo yielded:
